A magnet having a linear magnetic flux is provided to improve accuracy of a position sensor by accurately measuring an absolute distance based on a sensed result of the position sensor while moving the sensor in parallel with a pole surface of the magnet. A magnet is used in a sensor for measuring a distance. The magnet is formed in a rectangular shape. N and S poles of the magnet are magnetized according to a sine wave along a diagonal from an edge of the rectangular. The magnet emits a linear magnetic flux corresponding to a distance variation along a straight line, which is apart from pole surfaces of the N and S poles and parallel to the pole surfaces of the magnet. The magnetic flux emitted from the N or S pole of the magnet is linearly varied along the pole surface of the magnet.
