PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform an initial copy of a remote copy. SOLUTION: A storage device 1 installed in a first site produces a snapshot of a copy source logical device 151 in an intermediate logical device 152. Thereafter, an external storage device 4 formed with a logical device 451 corresponding to the intermediate logical device 152 is cut off from the first site and is connected to a second site. A storage device 6 inside the second site is made to recognize the logical device 451 inside the external storage device 4 as a logical device 153 of a remote copy destination. Next, the storage device 1 instructs writing of the copy destination logical device 153 via a global network 5 on the basis of difference data managed by a bitmap such that both the logical devices 151, 153 accord.
