PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a reference position of an optical pickup against an optical disk without using exclusive parts such as a switch. SOLUTION: The optical pickup 22 is moved from the outer peripheral side of the optical disk to the inner peripheral side and whether a focus error signal exceeds a threshold set for a reference level or not is discriminated. When the optical pickup 22 collides with the outer frame of a spindle motor 20, an objective lens 34 held by a suspension wire 94 is oscillated, the objective lens 34 is deviated from a just focus position and the focus error signal is increased/decreased from the reference level. When it is determined that the focus error signal exceeds the threshold, the collision of the optical pickup 22 with the outer frame of the spindle motor 20 is determined, the feeding operation of the optical pickup 22 is stopped and the stopped position is set as a reference position.
