Compositions comprising vinyl chloride polymers, e.g. vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, are stabilized against heat and light by incorporating therein an organometallic tin salt of a carboxylic acid and a phosphate, carbonate or silicate of magnesium. Specified organo-metallic tin salts are dibutyl tin diacetate, dioleate and dilaurate, diphenyl tin distearate, dibutyl tin maleate and fumarate and tri- (dibutyl tin) diaconitate. The magnesium salt, which may have a refractive index equal to the vinyl chloride polymer, may be trimagnesium phosphate, magnesium orthophosphate, basic magnesium carbonate, hydrous magnesium carbonate, magnesium silicate or sepiolite. The compositions may also contain plasticizers, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, lubricants, e.g. stearic acid, pigments and fillers. |
