<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration wave actuator that can simplify the constitution of a drive circuit, and to provide its drive method. <P>SOLUTION: An AC voltage V1 is applied to a piezoelectric body 1, thrust-up vibration is generated in a vibration body that is composed of piezoelectric bodies 1, 3 and 5, and an elastic body 7, the piezoelectric body 3 outputs a vibration detection voltage corresponding to the amplitude of the thrust-up vibration, and the piezoelectric body 5 generates twisted vibration to the vibration body by inputting the vibration detection voltage.
