WAVEFORM DEGRADATION COMPENSATION METHOD AND DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate waveform degradation of a light signal whose waveform is degraded due to dependency on frequency by propagating in a light transmission path without measuring a dispersion value or conversion in a frequency region.

SOLUTION: Compensation characteristic of the waveform degradation compensation means is controlled in a frequency region by directly using a time waveform error so as to minimize the time waveform error between a reference waveform corresponding to a modulation signal and an output waveform detected by a modulated wave. It is preferably that the waveform degradation compensation means is a variable dispersion compensation device, and a control of the compensation characteristic optimizes control variation of group delay frequency characteristics. Optimization of the control variation of the waveform degradation compensation means is preferably performed with an optimizing means using gradient.
