PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer that can determine whether an article to be purchased is age-restricted, and if there is an age restriction, verify the purchaser's age so as to cancel the purchase processing and record it if the purchaser is under age, while dispensing with modifications to application software of a settlement processing system. SOLUTION: An article identification means 33 checks print data received by the printer 20 from a host device 11 to identify whether articles to be purchased include age-restricted articles. If an age-restricted article is included, receipt printing is suspended, and an age verification means 35 compares the purchaser's age with the purchase restriction age so as to cancel the purchase processing if the restriction age is not reached. The connection of the printer 20 to the host device 11 can identify the purchase of age-restricted articles and can stop the purchase by those under age without modifications to an application of the host device 11.
