PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a car navigation system capable of presenting useful routes. SOLUTION: The car navigation system comprises a cell information management part for managing map information by cell; a display part for displaying maps and routes; and a display processing part for controlling and processing display. The display processing part displays information including maps and routes on the display part (display screen) and presents it to users. The cell information management part manages information related to a current position on map information not by position coordinates (points) but by which surface (area) on a map it is present in and manages passage information not for every road (line) but manages passage information of a vehicle in a surface (area) to which roads belong.
