An apparatus and method for detecting operation of a direction indicating lamp is provided to identify operation of the direction indicating lamp by detecting a voltage fluctuation of a battery of a vehicle. A power input unit(100) receives a power from a power source of a direction indicating lamp directly or indirectly. An AC signal detecting unit detects an AC component signal from the power to be input to the power input unit. A filtering unit detects only a signal component having a specific period and dimension among the AC component signal detected by the AC signal detecting unit. An amplifying unit amplifies the signal component detected by the filtering unit.
