PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rail gripping type braking device certainly reduction-adjusting or stopping a traveling speed of a vehicle at emergency and capable of preventing derailment and overturning of the vehicle. SOLUTION: The rail gripping type braking device is positioned at a track central part of left/right symmetrical position of a central part of the vehicle, grips both inner and outer side surfaces of a track upper head part by a gripping member of predetermined length, reduction-adjusting or stopping the traveling speed of the vehicle at emergency and prevents derailment and overturning of the railway vehicle. A plurality of inner cases 3 vertically movable by a predetermined dimension are combined/provided on a track central part of the left/right symmetrical position of the central part of the railway vehicle B by a movement means such as a guide case 2 and a cylinder. Arms 4 with gripping members openable/closable by the movement means such as the cylinder by a predetermined angle and fitted to an outer shape of both inner and outer side surfaces of the track upper head part are provided at the left and right symmetrical position of the inner case.
