PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high efficiency in an amplifier for amplifying a signal. SOLUTION: The amplifier comprises: a non-linear active element 1 for amplifying a signal which is objected to be amplified according to characteristics in response to a supplied control value; a level detecting means 11 for detecting a level of the signal which is objected to be amplified; determining means 12, 13 for each determining the control value to be supplied to the active element 1 on the basis of the detected level so that predetermined input output characteristics are obtained about the active element 1; and supplying means (a voltage converting transformer 21, 8 systems of power voltage units having coils A1 to A8, rectifying circuits B1 to B8, and charging circuits C1 to C8, and a matrix circuit 22) for supplying the determined control value to the active element 1.
