<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make image-formation latency (downtime) due to the automatic adjustment of an image forming density and an image forming position shorter than that in the conventional art. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, when an image having a predetermined size or smaller is formed, the image to be formed is arranged on a carrier, to secure a free space for forming an adjustment pattern on the carrier.
