PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method of oil film thickness uninfluenced by abrasion of a ring circumference caused by long-hour operation. SOLUTION: This method includes a procedure wherein two-stage grooves 13 are formed on the circumference of a piston ring 12 sliding along a cylinder wall 4, and when the piston ring 12 passes near the optical fiber tip 31a facing to the cylinder wall 4, excitation light generated by a laser from the optical fiber tip 31a is irradiated toward a lubricating oil existing between the optical fiber tip 31a and the first and second grooves on the circumference of the piston ring 12; a procedure wherein intensities of the first and second lights emitted from a fluorescent agent in the lubricating oil existing between the optical fiber tip 31a and the first and second grooves on the circumference of the piston ring 12 are measured by receiving the irradiation; and a procedure wherein the oil film thickness formed between the piston ring 12 and the cylinder wall 4 is measured based on the difference between the measured intensities of the first and second lights.
