PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage on a cooling fan at a time of travel on a road covered by water or a road in a water tank without deteriorating strength durability and cooling performance of a fan drive system. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a cooling fan protection device protecting the cooling fan 3 from impact at a time of enter into water when a vehicle travels of the road covered by water or the road in the water tank. An electronic controlled fan clutch 2 is installed between an engine 1 and the cooling fan 3, and a water level sensor 6 is provided at an appropriate position of a body lower than a lower end of the cooling fan 3, and a controller 4 disengaging the fan clutch 2 when water level exceeding allowable range is detected by the water level sensor 6.
