PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method, a profile generating method, and an image processing apparatus whereby particular colors such as white and black colors in one color gamut are mapped to similar particular colors in the other color gamut in gamut mapping and cross-reference between the colors are not lost. SOLUTION: Rotation and parallel movement are applied to a printer color gamut 202 to convert the gamut 202 to a color gamut 402 on the basis of a white point Wp and a black point Kp to bring the white point Wp and the black point Kp onto a lightness axis. That is, a white Wm and a black Km of a monitor can be cross-referenced with a media white Wp and a process black Wk respectively in the mapping of the modified color gamut by respectively mapping the white Wm and the black Km of the monitor to a white Wp' and a black Kp' of the printer. Further, an overlapped region of a monitor color gamut 201 on the printer color gamut 402 is a region not needing compression.
