An operating method of a single or double effect absorption refrigerator is provided to decrease the range of fluctuation in the temperature of cool water supplied with a heat load by selecting the lower valve opening degree to control the thermal power. A single or double effect absorption refrigerator comprises an evaporator(1) and absorber body(3) containing the evaporator(1) and the absorber(2); a low temperature regenerator compressor body(8) containing a low temperature regenerator(6) and a compressor(7); a low heat source regenerator compressor body(11) containing a low heat source regenerator(9) having a warm backwater from other equipment as a heat source and a compressor(10); a high temperature regenerator(5) equipped with a burner(4) for heating absorption water; a low and a high temperature heat exchangers(12,13); a coolant pump(P3), an absorption water pump(26). An operating method of a single or double effect absorption refrigerator compares the valve opening degree of a fuel control valve controlling the amount of the fuel supplied from the burner and the valve opening degree computed by the proportional operation having the outlet temperature of the cool water discharged from the evaporator after being cooled by the coolant evaporated from the evaporator as a variable and the valve opening degree computed by PID(Proportional Integral Derivative) operation having the outlet temperature of cool water as a variable, selects the lowest opening degree and controls the thermal power of the burner.
