Aqueous based pigment dispersions wherein the pigment is dispersed in a dye in the absence of any other dispersant or additive. Aqueous based printing ink compositions containing these pigment dispersions. Methods for preparing aqueous based pigment dispersions, wherein the pigment is dispersed in a dye, and for preparing printing ink compositions incorporating these dispersions.
