Provided are a membrane electrode assembly which prevents the crossover of fuel into a cathode layer through the gap between a gasket and an anode layer, and a fuel cell containing the membrane electrode assembly. The membrane electrode assembly(10) comprises a catalyst activation part(11,12) which is formed at the both sides of a membrane(13); a gasket(15) which is joined to the edge part of the membrane so as to be connected with the edge terminal of the each catalyst activation part; and an adhesive sheet(30) which is formed between the gasket and the edge part of the membrane so as to join the gasket to the edge part of the membrane and to block the gap between the gasket and the each catalyst activation part. Preferably the adhesive sheet is made of at least one selected from poly(vinyl acetate) and Nafion. |
