A method of controlling diversity in a CDMA system is provided to periodically check the number of PNs, registered in a receiving-side mobile communication terminal, and control a function of the diversity on the basis of the number information, thereby improving the number of times of handoff occurring in a PN overlapped area and preventing frequent handoff. A method of controlling diversity in a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) system comprises the following steps of: periodically checking the number of PNs(Pseudo Noises) registered in a PN overlapped area after connecting to CDMA data communication through a base station(S32); reading the reference number of PNs from a memory and comparing the checked number of PNs with the read reference number of PNs(S32,S33); and performing data transceiving by only using a main path by making a diversity path, formed by diversity, be in an off state when the checked number of PNs is greater than the read reference number(S35).
