The method involves detecting a variation of an acceleration control of a diesel internal combustion engine. A supercharging system of the engine is passed into a transient operating mode, according to the detected variation, in which a turbocharger of the engine is maintained in a given geometrical configuration during a predetermined period comprised between 0.1 and 1 second. An independent claim is also included for an electronic control unit implementing a diesel internal combustion engine controlling method.
