A torque converter (1), for transmission of torque by using fluid, comprises a front cover (14), an impeller (18), a turbine (19), and a stator (20). The impeller (18), turbine (19), and stator (20) cooperate with each other to define a torus fluid work chamber (6). In the fluid work chamber (6), a thinness ratio (L/D1) which is a ratio of the axial length (L) to the outer diameter (D1) is 0.18 or less. In an impeller shell (22), a surface (22a) having an impeller blade (23) attached thereto has an impeller linear section (22b) which is linear in sectional shape. In a turbine shell (25), a surface (25a) having a turbine blade (26) attached thereto has a turbine linear section (25b) which is linear in sectional shape.
