The invention concerns a motorcycle brake system in which, during a wheel slip control, the pressure build-up in the front wheel brake circuit (2) is determined according to the switching position of the inlet and outlet valve (21, 22) by the brake fluid volume which is available in the master brake cylinder (7) and which can be exclusively displaced into the front wheel brake circuit (2) manually. In order to prevent a depletion of the brake fluid volume, a monitoring of the brake fluid volume present in the main brake cylinder (7) is effected by a displacement sensor.
