PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clutch device having improved wear resistance by preventing the biting of foreign matters into an engaging portion of a sprag. SOLUTION: The clutch device 1 comprises the plurality of sprags 4 provided side by side between an inner ring 2 and an outer ring 3 in the peripheral direction. Each sprag 4 is self-rotated in response to a difference in rotating motion between the inner ring 2 and the outer ring 3 so that each sprag 4 selectively engages or disengages with the inner ring 2 and the outer ring 3. Each sprag 4 has a grooved portion 4e formed adjacent to an engaging face 4d of at least one of the inner ring 2 and the outer ring 3 frontward in the self-rotating direction during the engagement of the sprag 4 so as to open to a gap between the inner ring 2 and the outer ring 3 in the engaging condition.
