PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sleeve for a compacting machine, which sleeve is excellent in wear resistance, and has sufficiently long service life, and can be manufactured at a relatively low cost. SOLUTION: The sleeve is used for the compacting machine for manufacturing briquettes by compacting materials to be compacted, such as metal chips, and composes a compacting chamber of the compacting machine. At least a portion of the inner peripheral wall of the sleeve, which portion is to be brought into contact with the materials to be compacted, is made of a high speed steel alloy. The high speed steel alloy is made of an Fe based alloy containing 1.0 to 3.0 mass% of C, 0.1 to 2.0 mass% of Si, 0.1 to 2.0 mass% of Mn, 0 to 4.5 mass% of Ni, 3.0 to 10.0 mass% of Cr, 0.1 to 9.0 mass% of Mo, 0 to 10.0 mass% of W, and 1.0 to 10.0 mass% of V.
