PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus operation system employing a speech recognition technique which eliminates the need to register voiceprints by users in advance for speech recognition, does not require a great number of dictionary data, and can improve a speech recognition rate. SOLUTION: The apparatus operation system is equipped with an electronic apparatus (e.g. an image forming apparatus 10) which performs specified processing in response to a given operation that a user performs. The image forming apparatus 10 or an information processor connected thereto is equipped with a speech input means 14, a speech recognition means 15 of recognizing a speech input through the speech input means by using limited dictionary data 15a limited to only words related to operation contents which can currently be performed by the image forming apparatus 10 and generating recognition data as a result of the recognition, and a command generating means 12a of generating a command to perform the operation contents that the recognition data represent.
