PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber for improving ride comfort with a small stroke during travel on an uneven road or ride over a protrusion and for increasing the absorbing energy of vibration by increasing damping force with a great stroke in working strength. SOLUTION: A piston 8 is deformed in the radial direction to change the flow path cross section of a distribution hole 30. The piston 8 has slide contact with a cylinder inner peripheral face 14a, where the diameter of the cylinder inner peripheral face at the longitudinal end is set to be smaller than the diameter of the cylinder inner peripheral face at a longitudinal middle position of the cylinder. The piston 8 which has slide contact with the cylinder inner peripheral face at the longitudinal end is deformed inward in the radial direction to reduce the flow path cross section of the distribution hole 30.
