PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for oxidizing an organic compound such as a primary alcohol, a secondary alcohol, an alkylbenzene, etc., under a moderate condition, without using an oxidizing agent containing a heavy metal, and a new oxidation catalytic system. SOLUTION: This method for oxidizing the organic compound with an oxidizing agent to form an oxidation product is characterized by irradiating light energy in the presence of an optical semiconductor catalyst and a phase transfer catalyst for performing the oxidation.
