PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical glass forming die excellent in a degree of asphericity and capable of mass-producing optical glass elements of the order of several tens of thousands by using the same forming die in order to inexpensively provide small-sized high-accuracy optical glass elements used in e.g. high-pixel cameras. SOLUTION: The optical glass element forming die is constituted from an Si-SiC composite material in which the Si content is 5 to 30 wt.%, the diameters of free Si particles present on the surface of the die is 40μm or smaller, and the count of free Si particles having diameters of 10 to 40μm and are present on the surface of the die is 50 particles/mm<SP>2</SP>or smaller.
