PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat-panel display device which attains lower electric power consumption, without degrading the image quality, and to provide a driving method for the same. SOLUTION: The flat panel display device is equipped with a plurality of pixels X, a signal line DL which supplies image signal to each column of the pixel group, a scanning line SL which selects the pixel group of a row unit, a signal drive circuit 12 to which the signal line DL is connected, a scanning line drive circuit 14 to which the scanning line SL is connected, a switching section 16A which transmits image data S11 and a drive signal to the signal drive circuit 12 and the scanning line drive circuit 14, and a display image controller 22 which turns an interlace scanning on/off signal S12 to on/off, according to whether original image data 51 is a moving image or static image and transmits the same to the switching section 16A. A reference value for deciding the moving image is inputted from the outside to a display image controller 22, and the switching section 16A switches the operation of the scanning line driving circuit 14 to interlace scanning, when the scanning on/off signal S12 is on and switches the operation thereof to the non-interlace scanning, when the operation is off.
