When a semiconductor storage device (10) writes 16-bit data in a memory array (100) capable of storing 8-bit data in one line, firstly most significant 8 bits are written in the first write limited line of the memory array (100). An increment controller (150) judges whether a value of existing data written in the memory array (100) coincides with the write data used for writing and latched in an 8-bit latch register (170). When the existing data coincides with the write data, the increment controller (150) outputs a write permission signal WEN1 to a write/read controller (140) and executes write of least significant 8-bit write data in the memory array (100).
