<p>The present invention relates to a memory disk substrate comprising a metal matrix composite that is formed by combining a metal material in powdered form with a ceramic material in powdered form to form a particle mixture and then compressing that particle mixture to form a memory disk substrate, said metal being selected from the group consisting of aluminum, magnesium, titanium and mixtures thereof and said ceramic particles being selected from the group consisting of silicon hexaboride and mixtures of silicon hexaboride and calcium hexaboride, and wherein the metal is in the range of 50 % to 99 % by weight of the composite material and the ceramic material is in the range of 1 % to 50 % by weight of the composite material.</p> |
