A light source for a backlight unit is provided to improve the incident efficiency of light entering a light guiding plate, by forming a plurality of protrusions on an outside wall of a glass tube for the light source. A light source(302) includes a glass tube(400). A fluorescent material is coated on an inside wall of the glass tube. A plurality of protrusions are formed on an outside wall of the glass tube. The protrusion has a pillar shape of an equilateral triangle, of which both base angles are equal. The protrusion is capable of having a convex semicircle shape. The protrusion is capable of having a concave semicircle shape. |
