An EPG(Electronic Program Guide) receiving apparatus and a method therefor are provided to efficiently judge whether the reception of EPG data whose size is not uniform is completed. A data receiving unit(210) receives partial data of EPG data through a communication network from a certain EPG providing server. A temporary storing unit(220) stores the received partial data of the EPG data. A checksum calculating unit(230) calculates a checksum for the partial data of the EPG data stored in the temporary storing unit(220) at a uniform time interval. A receiving completion judging unit(240) judges whether the checksum calculated for the partial data of the EPG data is identical to a checksum calculated just before the calculation, and judges the receiving completion of the EPG data.
