A surface light source device and a backlight unit adopting the same are provided to improve the initial brightness activation, by disposing a plurality of adjusters for adjusting the longitudinal width of a discharge space. A light source body(200) has an inner space, in which a discharge gas is injected. Barriers(240) divide the inner space of the light source body into a plurality of discharge spaces(230). Electrodes(210) are provided in the light source body to apply voltages to the discharge gas. One or more adjusters(220) are arranged in the center region of each discharge space, and adjust the longitudinal width of the discharge space to improve the initial brightness activation. |
