A safety frame for single or double glazed window panes has the edges of the pane, or double glazed unit, haled by a U-profiled metal strip (3) whose central section is secured into a recessed metal frame (1). The U-profiled strip is plastic coated and has a stepped profile, with a narrower width clamped into the outer support frame (1) and with the wider section gripping the glass pane. For a flush fitting the ends of the U-strip locate into a recessed profile at the edges of the glass unit.
