<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device that is so structured as to sufficiently deepen a hole having an inner peripheral surface as a reflecting layer surrounding the light emitter from its periphery, thus effectively reflecting light emission from the light emitter. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting device has a substrate 3, a reflective layer 4 with a hole formed on the front surface of the substrate, a light emitter 5 arranged on the substrate inside the hole so as to be electrically conductive with a circuit on the substrate, a transparent resin layer 7 filled in the hole to seal the light emitter, and a prism sheet 8 set on the top surface of the reflective layer and the transparent resin layer.
