The invention relates to a device for improving the behaviour of a boot (1), in particular a hiking boot, whilst standing and walking on ground (9) that slopes downhill away from the tip of the boot. Said device comprises a compensation element (2) for compensating the slope of the ground (9), fixing means (4, 5, 6a, 6b, 6b', 24-29) for detachably fixing the compensation element (2) to the boot (1), said means comprising at least one tape or strap (6a, 6b, 13, 26) that can be placed around the heel section of the boot. The compensation element (2), when fixed, only lies against the sole (3) of the boot in the front-foot section of the latter (1) and the surface of the compensation element (2) that faces the ground runs essentially parallel with the sole (3) of the boot (1).
