PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for the site-specific chemical modification of various proteins, and to provide the resultant composition having advanced biocompatibility and bioactivity. SOLUTION: The new method comprises modifying leptin(obesity-related protein) with diethylenetriaminepentacetic acid anhydride to obtain the aimed chemically modified leptin with only the N-terminal monosuccinylated. The chemically modified leptin thus obtained has advantages in terms of bioavailability and biocompatibility.
