PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an identification and verification method for ashes for surely verifying and identifying ashes, maintaining and managing identification information even in the case that an urn is discarded, easily repairing or restoring an identification and verification plate, being preferred mentally, and preparing the identification and verification plate in a short period of time regardless of the kind and shape of the urn. SOLUTION: The identification and verification method of ashes for identifying and verifying the ashes 51 housed inside the urn 11 by the identification and verification plate 1a where the identification information is displayed comprises: an identification and verification plate preparation process of preparing two identification and verification plates 1a and 1b by writing common identification information inside each of two transparent quartz substrates by light irradiation; and an identification and verification plate arrangement process of arranging the two identification and verification plates 1a and 1b above and below the ashes 51.
