PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain appropriate segment information for a main content even if a plurality of voice modes are mixed in a program. SOLUTION: A decision is made whether the total length or the ratio of a video signal when a voice signal is in a first mode to the set length of a recorded video signal is less than a predetermined length or ratio or not. If it is less than the predetermined length or ratio, a decision is made that the voice mode of the recorded video signal is a second mode, otherwise a decision is made that the voice mode is a first mode. Depending on the decision results, an adaptive processing section (algorithm) for generating the segment information of an arbitrary section of the video signal is set and the segment information thus generated is stored.
