ADAPTIVE FORWARDING SYSTEM OPERABLE IN A REPEATER AND A ROUTER MODE

An apparatus for transmitting a data signal over a communication network to a receiver comprises a forwarder (107) being configured to be placed into a repeater mode for repeating the data signal, or to be placed into a router mode for routing the data signal, and a controller (109) being configured for receiving control information and for placing the forwarder (107) in the repeater mode or in the router mode in dependence on the control information. Therefore, flexible communication networks can be provided.
