The critical Reynolds number above which the Toms effect is generated is determined from the equation Re >= Recr = (25.5d2RT/nu2rhoMeta)0.571, where Re is the Reynolds number of the flow, Recr is the critical Reynolds number above which the Toms effect is generated, d is the diameter of the pipeline, nu is the kinematical viscosity, R is the universal gas constant, T is the temperature, rho is the density, M is the molecular mass of the polymer, and eta is the characteristic viscosity. ^ EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. |
