<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently regenerate NOx storage reduction catalyst by adding minimum necessary fuel and make mounting property on a vehicle good. <P>SOLUTION: An introduction flow passage 11 is divided into two to make exhaust gas 2 individually flow to zones of half of NOx storage reduction catalyst 4, and an exhaust gas change over means 15 selectively distributing exhaust gas to one zone is provided in upstream thereof. An external communication opening 16 selectively communicating to another zone when exhaust gas 2 is distributed to one zone by the exhaust gas change over means 15 is provided. A bypass pipe 19 taking out part of exhaust gas 2 from right before the same and guiding the exhaust gas to the external communication opening 16 is arranged along the exhaust gas change over means 15. A fuel adding means adding fuel is connected to an upstream side of the bypass pipe 19, and a plasma reforming machine 26 generating plasma by electric discharge in the exhaust gas 2 and decomposing the same to H<SB>2</SB>and CO is provided in a middle of the bypass pipe 19 in a down stream side of the fuel adding position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
