PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent production of a defective product caused by defective fitting of a roller electrode and to prevent damage on a device caused by a short circuit of the roller electrode. SOLUTION: In a seam welding method, pairs of an electrode holder and a roller electrode being detachable from/attachable to the electrode holder are set and a workpiece abutted to the roller electrode is welded by applying a welding current between the roller electrodes. The method includes the following steps: a step, in which the roller electrodes are made to approach each other up to the prescribed minimum clearance; a step, in which a voltage is applied between the roller electrodes mutually positioned with the prescribed minimum clearance; a step, in which flowing of the current between the roller electrodes is confirmed; a step, in which, when the current flows, the roller electrodes are properly attached to the electrode holders; and a step, in which, when the current does not flow between the roller electrodes, the roller electrodes are moved to a prescribed position to conduct the welding.
