An image recording apparatus for starting an image-dubbing operation from an external device without an error and an image-dubbing method thereof are provided to perform the fast-winding operation of a magnetic tape as much as a predetermined amount and then to perform a rewinding operation toward the initial position. When an one touch-image dubbing command is inputted through a manipulation member from a user(S310), a DVDR(Digital Video Disc Recorder) control member generates an initial point reproduction command(S320) so that a DVC(Digital Video Camcorder) control member performs fast winding, rewinding toward the initial position and reproducing from the initial point in the magnetic tape. The DVDR control member transmits the initial point reproduction command to the DVC control member through communication interfaces(S330).
