<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly and quickly discriminate a next generation hybrid DVD having an HDDVD layer and a DVD layer. <P>SOLUTION: This method first reproduces the first layer (DVD layer) by using a red laser beam as the preference laser beam (S101-S105). As the reproduction is interrupted by displaying menu (display for selection of chapters and languages), the second layer (HDDVD layer) is searched by using a blue laser beam (S106-S108). If a second layer is detected, a message is displayed over the menu to indicate that the second layer can be selected (S109). When an instruction is indicated to reproduce the second layer following this instruction (S110), the reproduction mode is changed from the first layer reproduction by using the preference laser beam to the second layer (HDDVD layer) reproduction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
