A file restoration method of a portable terminal capable of mounting an external memory card is provided to be capable of restoring a temporary file stored in the terminal when file copying is interrupted while a file of the memory card mounted on the terminal is being copied to the terminal, thus the file can be continuously stored. In copying mode, a copy log file of a particular original file is generated, and the original file is copied and stored as a temporary file(301-309). It is sensed whether a file copying interruption occurs while the original file is copied(311,315). If so, the original file is copied according to information on the copy log file, and the temporary file whose file copying is interrupted is stored in a terminal as an original file(319-325).
