THREE CONCENTRIC COIL ARRAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new and unique coil arrangement that improves the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of an MRI machine. SOLUTION: The invention provides a multiple station RF coil array comprised of multiple three concentric surface coil arrays for achieving a large field of view. Another embodiment of the invention provides an RF coil array comprising three coil elements without sharing the same plane. Yet another embodiment of the invention provides a coil array having two concentric surface coils. The first coil is called a "double butterfly" coil which is paired in combination with a loop coil. The net magnetic flux through the double butterfly coil is adjustable to zero by varying the size of the loops of the butterfly coil in relation to one another. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
