METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR POWER CONTROL IN A MULTIPLE ANTENNA SYSTEM

A method for controlling power in a multi-antenna system and an apparatus therefor are provided to perform an OLPC(Open Loop Power Control) function in a multi-antenna device, so as to minimize power consumption in a wireless communication system. An initial antenna weight set is selected(202-204). Copies of transmission signals are multiplied by the selected antenna weight to generate transmission signals added with the weight(206). The signals added with the weight are transmitted by using initial overall transmission power(208). The antenna weight of the transmission signals is controlled to re-transmit the transmission signals until an acknowledgement of satisfactory signal strength is received from an intended receiver(210,216).
