PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing convex parts, by which convex parts of various small-lot products and a relatively wide convex shape can be manufactured by a simple process and the projecting part can be manufactured on the surface of glass or a thin film without the adverse influence of the fine unevenness on the processing surface of a processing tool. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the convex part comprises manufacturing the convex part 2 on the surface 1a of a glass base material 1 by subjecting the glass base material 1 to a chemical etching treatment using an etching solution. The method includes a compressive stress part forming process for forming a compressive stress part 3, where the etching rate to an etchant is different from those of the other parts, on the surface 1a and its vicinity of the glass base material 1 by locally applying a prescribed pressure to the glass base material 1 and a convex part forming process for forming the projecting part 2 in the surface 1a of the glass base material 1 by subjecting the glass base material 1 to the chemical etching treatment after the compressive stress part forming process. In the compressive stress forming process, the prescribed pressure is given to the glass base material 1 by pressing the processing tool 4 being rotated at a prescribed rotation number to the glass base material 1.
